If i could have one *super power* as a natural light photographer, it would be to control the weather.
Of course, I definitely would love if every outdoor session that I shot, there was no rain but just enough cloud cover that it isn’t blistering hot.
I also love when it’s breezy but not overwhelming to undo my client’s freshly blow dried hair.
Basically, I'm the goldilocks of photographers: I want it *just* right!
Unfortunately, I do not possess this power and sometimes, we just have to roll with the punches!
Depending on the situation, if the weather is REALLY bad, my personal choice is to reschedule but this comes with its own challenges.
This means rescheduling EVERYTHING:
Each person being photographed involved schedule has to accommodate this change
The new date and time has to also be accommodate by your hair dresser and makeup artist (if you’re getting these things done)
If you’ve booked a location, you’d have to chat with the owner or manager of the property to see if they would be okay with the change.
It’s a lot of to take into consideration.
If a shoot cannot be postponed, we need to find an alternative PRONTO!
This can look like moving the shoot indoors if that option is available
OR finding somewhere that isn’t raining at that time.
This is the trickiest option because time is also an important factor, so if it is raining in south but dry in town, we’d have to take into consideration the time to get to the new location and how fast the sun is setting.
I say, if we have to make it work, we make it work.
It may not be what we had in mind originally but some of the best photos Iv’e gotten are where we let go of our expectations, let loose and have some fun!
These shots below are where we were surprised with some rain,
and I absolutely love how the shots came out.
